Okay so I don't know if anyone is going to reply or whatever, but I'm a 15 year old girl and I'm looking into taking dance classes. I took one year of dance when I was about 7, and since then I've done gymnastics and cheerleading. So I have some experience and I'm not too worried, but I'm just wondering if anyone has gone straight from cheerleading to dance, and if its hard to learn the flowy movements of dance after having to make strong movements in cheerleading. Anyone know where I'm coming from? Or have any tips for getting better at dancing, or becoming more flexible? I'd appreciate some replies, thanks! :)

  1. Ive never been a cheerleader, but you are obviously fit and strong,so you should be able to just work hard to catch up in the class and you should be fine, you may look into taking your level and a few lower level classes to build strenght.

  2. well I can't say that I've ever had to switch from cheerleading, but I would say for the flexibility just stretch every day and then you will notice a difference in your flexibility. For being flowy... honestly you can't really practice. That will either come in time, or it won't... Also you could watch some dance videos on you tube and then try to learn some of the moves.... hope this helps... sorry I don't know more

  3. i've been dancing since the second grade at age 7... i also did cheer ... it wasn't hard at all...

i'm still dancing at westpointe studios... https://www.westpointestudios.com

i'm also a cheerleader at school...

show lots of emotion to weather its lyrical... jazz... hip hop er what ever... just have fun with it... and DON'T BE SHY =]]

  4. yes. dance is much more smooth and pretty, pointed feet, and very light. i am a dancer/ cheerleader. i started dance first and now i also do cheerleading. but i know people who have done the opposite, and it was very difficult for them, whereas my transition was much smoother.

  5. Cheerleaders stick there moves and dancers are more flowing. But no it shouldnt be hard you already have the flexiblity and inner strength. So work on leaving behind the cheerleader faces and the perkiness and you should be fine!
