Are you asking whether it's OK to give a shower for a bride who is having a JOP wedding, as opposed to a big wedding?

The answer is YES.  In fact, a couple who is having a very modest, cost-conscious wedding is probably more in need of household items than a couple who can afford a big wedding.

Or are you asking if it's OK to host a shower for yourself?  The answer is always NO (big wedding, small wedding -- doesn't matter).

Yes. That is fine as long as neither you nor your mother or other immediate family is throwing it and as long as all your shower guests are also invited to the reception. :-)

Why not have the Justice of the Peace come to the reception and perform the wedding there.?  My cousin did that and it was very beautiful.

Sure it's OK.  A shower is appropriate no HOW one is getting married.  Church, JP, courthouse, backyard are all equally legitimate forms of a wedding.
