I was hoping to just make a smaller one, because the one I have now is bigger and not very precise. What material is the tip usually made out of?

  1. The tip is probably steel.  That said, why not just grind down the one you have?

  2. I knew an electrician/electrical engineer who recommend using solid copper wire. Find a piece just small enough to fit into the sockets on the iron. You can bend it into any shape you want, hammer it flat, file it to a point, whatever.
