I have to do a science project for school where we have to construct it ourselves. I was wondering was it possible to grow a culture of bacteria all from the same species AT HOME. I know that this is indeed possible but is it possible at home without buying expensive materials. I wanted to know before I design an experiment without being able to implement it. Thank you!

  1. Why would you want to risk contaminating your home with E-Coli?

  2. It's pretty difficult to find and buy bacteria that you'd be able to culture at home but if you were able to find it (and it'd be a stroke of luck if you could) then it would definently be possible. I'd abort and try to find something else to do for the assignment because finding what you need to do it is going to be incredibly expensive and time consuming.

  3. This can be done - but please make sure you do it safely and with supervision

  4. it was very easy to do in bio lab, we just smeared bacteria that had been cultured in agar plates, and after letting them grow tested antibiotics and household cleaning products on them.  however, I don't know where you would obtain a sample of the culture.  good luck!
