It is almost impossible. They do screening very similar to the airport.

It is "to prevent terrorism" but actually it is to make sure that you spend money on the ship's alcohol rather than use your own.

Well I've only cruised on Carnival and they do allow you to bring alcohol on board but in limited portions I added the page where you can go and find out exactly what that is, I can't imagine it being very different on other cruises. So the answer is yes you can, they don't even check if you have the amount allowed but I wouldn't trust just bring what they allow and buy the rest. Have fun!

No, not very easily.  And, its really not necessary.  You can buy alcohol on board a fairly reasonable prices. There is not enough benefit is savings to justify the hassle.
