Is it, relatively speaking, cheaper to carpool or take a school bus?

I am a high school student, at a pretty small school. There are about 13 kids on the soccer team and the coach said instead of taking the bus like previous years we are going to have (volunteer) parents drive (because its a liability for kids to drive) to the away games instead of a bus. now from what research i have done it is A LOT more expensive if you add up all the cars for parents to drive. gas is about 3.70 and diesel is about 4.60.. i just wanted someone else's opinion about the situation. I think the principal is just trying to put the money off on the parents.. as if parents arnt already suffering from increasing prices in gas

  1. Yeah, bus would probably be cheaper.  Looks like the district doesn't want to pay for it.  Maybe all the parents could get together and charter a bus, that might be cheaper.

  2. I can't agree more. The schools tried that here with my kids and was not tried again. You should rally the parents to complain about it enough to change the schools mind. It worked for us. Just have them remind the school how much property taxes have gone up in the past couple of years. We paid for those buses, not the principle. And btw, good job on staying involved...
