  1. thanks to people like you, and the others here, maybe they'll find the strength to open up and own their truths, to work against those who try and suppress us.

  2. because people can be asses and they dont want to have to put up with stuff that is none of anybody elses business anyways

  3. wow.  i'm not an adoptee, but the more i read some of the responses on here, i just say "thank God i didn't place my son!!!"

i find it painful that the very people who's decision and existence bring so much joy to the lives of aparents are the very ones loathed when their function is no longer needed.

bmoms are only loved (by some people) when they are pregnant, eagerly place and then walk away.

adoptees are only loved (by some people)  when they are compliant children and grateful adults.

any deviation from the norm and...

    OFF.WITH.YOUR.HEAD!

  4. You know, before this year, I was pretty tight-lipped about all of this.  And, as I worked through my search and reunion, I thought, "I'm being silly.  People might not know much about adoption.  I should be open about the complexities of adoption."

I have since learned that I was naive.  Ah well...  It's too late now.  I'm already out.

  5. Not at all.  I hope things are changing, but I remember when "You're adopted" was a common insult and source of shame, as was having been born out of wedlock.

Searching adoptees may very well feel a need to remain closeted.  Some can't even bring themselves to tell their a'parents they are searching.  We're faced with archaic attitudes that insist we divide our loyalties--that one set of parents or another is the "real" one.

Adoption has changed, but the world has not yet caught up with the changes.  Who suffers?  Adoptees do.
