Is it considered disrespectful or even a bit repulsive to leave the table during a meal to go to the toilet. Are people expected to either do their business before the meal or hold on until the meal ends?

Please write your thoughts.

Thank you.

  1. It could be considered disrespectful, but if you simply excuse yourself it is not bad mannered.

  2. no way... go do your thing, come back and finish your meal... you should only make a public acknowledgment of your departure if you are not returning

  3. I don't think its disrespectful at all to go to the toilet during a meal. Just make sure to quietly tell the people who you are eating with that "Please excuse me for a moment" or something along those lines insted of "i gotta go do a ****" =]

  4. i think it might be a lil inappropriate. you could always wait or go before the meal....unless its a family dinner at home...then you could get up.but say excuse me first

    GLADE I COULD HELP!!!!!

  5. NO ITS NOT DISRESPECTFUL

  6. As long as you use polite words to describe what you are doing like I am going to the "ladies room" instead of I have to go take a dump. It's fine. Oh and washing your hands before returning is also a plus =)

  7. Simply excuse yourself

  8. To ask questions when you're not prepared to hear the answer? I'm not sure, maybe you should start to love yourself xx

  9. It would be a LOT more disrespectful if you DIDN'T leave the table and did your business right there.

There's no hold button for the call of nature. Don't see how it's disrespectful to politely excuse yourself and go do what you need to as long as you carefully attend to proper hygiene before returning. Too many people don't wash their hands, and that's SO nasty.

  10. no, just excuse yourself politely.  You can't control things like that

  11. Its fine, just ask to be excused. But if possible then yes go before or wait, its not nice to leave the table as it makes breaks in conversation.

  12. No it is not. Just politely ask to be excused, without saying what you have to do and go do what you must.

  13. Excuse me goes a long way ... we are all humans at the table after all,if you have to go you have to go .

  14. Good question.

Personally, i prefer to do my business before or after a meal but if someone excused themselves from the table to go to toilet i wouldnt be offended.

I would just hope that they washed their hands before passing me more bread.
