Your Dog ran away a week before being fixed, when she came back 3 days later she was pregnant, since you dont believe in killing dogs you wouldnt send the litter to the pound, but keep them..my question is..is it cruel to keep all the pupies and raise them as a family?

I dont mind keeping them ALL and I could afford the Pet care and food.Do you think it would stress the mother too much to be around her pups for the rest of her life?Do dogs like to form a family?

She is already pregnant so nothing could be done about that. She will definatly get fixed after having her pups..

Thanks

  1. OF COURSE THEY DO!

my baby got pregnant with three pups.

its been a year, and theyre

playful and happy as can be.

    the only person with stress

gonna be you. if you can handle it :)

  2. it isn't cruel unless you can't give them the amount of room and exercise based on the size of these dogs. dogs are much happier when they have a playmate though it really helps their quality of life out a lot.

  3. Only OK if you can and DO spay and neuter every one of them before they even think about coming into heat.  Not "intend to spay"...DO IT.  I personally, knowing that a new litter of unwanted pups will only mean the death of dogs already here, would abort the litter by spaying the female.  It isn't the same as aborting humans.  No one is going to kill the human infant, or some other teen-aged human because there are too many people.  For every dog born, one is going to die somewhere just because they are overpopulated, and there aren't enough RESPONSIBLE owners for them all.  They will not recognize each other as "family" anyway.

  4. It's not cruel.  Dams are very good *usually* at telling her pups to leave her the heck alone when she wants it.  And, the pups will continue to grow and play.

However, littermates are not always the best of buds.

I knew BC littermates who had been together their entire lives.  Eventually, one had to be rehomed.  They fought constantly!

  5. I personally would just have her spayed.

If I really thought I could afford an entire litter of dogs.. I'd prefer to abort this litter and go save some dogs in the shelter from death instead.

Dogs die either way..  why is an unborn "oops" litter more deserving of life than a dog that is already here?

Dogs dont have the same concept of "family" as we do.  They form packs.  There are often problems later with keeping a litter of pups, expecially as they mature and try to find their place in the pack.  You get issues with dominancy, resource gaurding, and any other problems that come with owning multiple dogs.

The thing is its hard to raise, train and housebreak a litter of pups, instead of getting one or two dogs at a time.  The pups will generally form a closer bond with each other and less so with YOU.  Its harder for you to establish yourself as the alpha as they are working out the pack order among themselves.  Its also harder to housebreak when you have multiple pups running around the house peeing everywhere.

  6. I don't think that they mind having one, but they never want one.  Not like most women do, ya know?  I don't think it would be cruel to keep all of the pups, as long as you can afford to get them all spayed/neutered along with vet care and food and so-on.  Then I think it's perfectly fine.

  7. yes of course you can keep them but she might have around 6 to 8 pups i hope you have a big enough garden and enough space and time for them if not then it is unfair as the mother would obviously want a little time on her own like humans but they should be fine hope i helped

  8. It will be quite hard. But I don't think it is wrong either way. My cat had 5 kittens we kept 2 and they are very playful. If you checkout my youtube account Hutcoco you can see them they love their mom. But i think it is up to you.

  9. Its very hard work to keep a whole litter but if you are truly willing and able to take care of them by all means go for it,But please spay or neuter the litter as soon as they are the right age.

    God Bless

  10. I agree with Jennifer T. and wow, you could tell 3 days later that she was pregnant? that is quite impressive, since most of the time no one would know if their dog was pregnant after being gone 3 days.

EDIT: oh, to answer the question, i don't think it would be necessarily cruel to keep them, but i think it would be a lot of work. and if you didn't spay and neuter the pups, you would just start the cycle all over again.
