Question:

Is it Ich, fin rot, or trauma?

I have 5 angel fish in a 100 gallon aquarium with 4 Austrailian Rainbowfish, and 5 platys.

The angel's fins and tails are ragged and look worse every day. The edges are white and swollen (not red/bloody). Their bodies have salt like deposits that could be ich or injuries. I don't know which.

Is it even possible for 5 fish to be sick while the others are fine?

Other info:

The angels are 8 months old and "siblings".

The tank has been running for 5-6 years and is cleaned regularly.

I've been watching closely and can't see a bully fish. There's no obvious aggression among any of the fish.

  1. sounds like ich and fin rot  well i would get some ich and fin rot remedies treat the tank for 3-5 days then do a 25% water change change the filter  and also check your water for PH and ammonia if you don't have test kits just bring a water sample to any fish shop they well test it for you  and help you with your problem

    good luck

  2. Sounds like fin rot, at least in part.  The white part could be a fungal infection.

I have Bettas and use Jungle Fungus Eliminator for fungus and tetracycline for fin rot.  I don't know if those will work for your fish.

Did you just get the Angels?  I find that new fish sometimes have ailments.  They aren't always kept in ideal conditions before we get them.
