A very strict husband? As in abusive? I'd make my husband cook for himself if he was going to be a jerk over food....he usually cooks for himself anyways, because I am pretty bad at it unless its something I am familiar with.

  1. If it was a fish taco you are cooking you would find it impossible to spit out because of its savory flavor

  2. I am very fearful of Allah (saw)! This morning as I made a bagel for my son..I got some cream cheese on my finger...other times my reaction would of been different, but I felt the fear...and I washed it off, instead of l*****g it off. Subhana'Allah

  3. No u can season it after u have opened ur fast cant u. I heard that a wife who has a very strict husband is permitted to do that though.

no i didnt mean an abusive husband, why would u wanna give him tasty food if he abused u :S

  4. yeah u can!! but you cannot swallow it!!

  5. no actually its not dumb, but my mom said during fasting if you need to taste the food your making to see if it needs anything else, that you can taste it, but im not sure really.

  6. No, you can't.. because the purpose is to see what people that DON'T have food feel. And, when you cook, you got to just try your best :S.

As long as it touches your taste bud, it's not ok, it's like you broke your fast.

Soup is simple, go by a recipe. Put EXACTLY what they tell you and you won't have to taste a thing :|

And you can break it with lentil soup (and i understand the non-muslim community ; been there, done that) but, might i suggest arabic coffee. Or, laban (it's dairy)

  7. I don't believe it's ok as you are to abstain from food and water until iftar. The tastebuds will come alive and the mouth will salivate naturally.

However, regardless of technicalites, do you really want to go for a full day fasting only to doubt if it was actually valid?

It's best to break fast with something simple like dates and yogurt. Then season and perhaps finish cooking your food a bit further once your fast is broken.

    Wasalam.

  8. wow no

  9. Why tempt yourself? Get someone else to do it for you. Maybe two or three. There is safety in a multitude of counselors. I work in a cafeteria and fast occasionally, and in doing so, I have others taste for me. I even have others taste my food to be sure doubly that it is good. God does not get upset if you slip up while fasting. One is harder on one's self than God is in most cases. Hope I helped you. Jon

  10. Alhamdulillah.

According to the relative of the Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) ibn Abbas (RA) who is known as the "scholar of the Ummah", it is permissible and acceptable for one to taste food while fasting if there is a need to do so.

Of course this must be done without swallowing the food or allowing it to enter the throat.

One thing to add; the Prophet (SAWS) told us to break our fast with fresh dates and if we cannot find fresh dates then we should break the fast with dry dates.

If we cannot find any dates at all, then we should break our fast with water so Alhamdulillah from the Sunnah we have options that will allow us to still follow the Sunnah when dates may be unavailable.

  11. no point in tasting something if u wont swallow. you will break your fast regardless

  12. Yes It is ok

  13. i lived in morocco for a year and a half. all them are muslims there. i am a convert to islam, and they cook aloooot during ramadan. yes you can put it in your mouth to taste but it takes a real professional at this to not swallow. you have to taste it then immediatly spit and rise your mouth alot until there is no taste at all. i find it hard to do , though i have done it a few times. but i have learned to wait until the exact moment to break fast then grab a spoonful and add what you need to at that time. because usually fasts are broken with dates and milk, and you wait till after prayer to eat teh meal , so you can let it cook and allow extra flavors to mix in while you pray, and should be all set when you are ready to eat.

  14. a maulana/mufti on tv explained that its ok to taste food only n only if you fear your husband....that he might get upset with the food and hit you(which off course is haram for a husband to do for food being the reason).....in other cases no you cant taste food....

  15. our sheikh mentioned it this last night.

yes it is ok, your niyat is key.

if you're sneaking a taste to lessen your hunger, then it breaks your fast .

just be careful not to swallow.

  16. my mom does it all the time....lol

  17. Sis, it's better not to do it.

    Just estimate

    or...

When fast has ended, try "demo" / cook it again and see how much you've needed to put, so as the soup tastes fine. Then remember how much u put it when cooking it later on, when breaking fast.

  18. Hehe, I have my mom taste it, she's not fasting.

Anyway, no I don't think you should.  Wish we could though, my pogacas would have been WAY less salty. Darn Greek cheese.I did hear that you can swallow things that are smaller than a chickpea?  But I don't know if that is true.
