Is it OK if I buy birds from a pet shop, and then release them?

I've always wanted to do that... poor birdies are enclosed in a cage, they do not belong in a cage... they belong in the air.

  1. Don't do this they will die since they are tropical birds. I know how you feel, I'd like to be able to set them free back in their home land.

  2. No. They don't have the skills to survive in the wild.

  3. Dont do that. They would know how to survive... their moms never got to teach them that

  4. They wouldn't survive! They aren't in their native land, birds you would buy in a pet shop come from all over the world. They'd just die, so leave them alone.

  5. no that is a pretty silly to do no matter how much sense you think it makes

1 you are releasing a bird into an area it is not native to

2 it may not have the means to survive on its own

3 it may not have a food source to feed on

4 they are generally tropical birds and could not survive in a cooler climate

5 they may have diseases that could be released into the wild bird population

  6. No! These birds were not raised in the wild, won't know how to find food, avoid predators, etc, and will likely not survive in the wild for long.

If you want to help birds, do some research, make sure the birds are kept in humane conditions, treated well, etc. There are also lots of bird rescue groups in the US. Google bird rescue and whatever city you live in, and start there.

  7. NO!   They wouldn't survive.  They aren't native birds and have never been taught how to look for food.  IF they were to survive, introducing non native birds wreaks havoc on other native birds.

  8. Actually you're wrong. Those birds do belong in a cage. Thats where they were raised. They don't technically know they're birds. They think they are humans too. There is no way they could survive out in the wild. SO PLEASE DON'T TRY! (most wings are clipped - they have never been in the air so look at it his way - they don't know what they're missing so they're ok with it.)

  9. NO.  That would be torture to the birds.  They would die!  Not only that, it's illegal.  Introducing new birds into certain areas can be devastating to other bird populations.

Also, by buying the birds you are creating a place for more birds to be sold.  When birds are sold they bring in more...and more...

I know you want to do something helpful to animals and you sound like you have a great heart.  If you want to save birds, donate money or time to a bird rescue...or adopt a bird from a bird rescue, build it a giant cage and take excellent care of it.

Bless your heart.  You have a heart of gold and you will definitely help a lot of animals in your lifetime.  Do the best you can and never give up.  You can make a big difference, just in other ways.

  10. It's only creating a demand for the birds and encouraging them to put more birds in cages.

  11. Is the bird's habitat natural to the area that your going to be releasing it in?

Is the bird native to the area that you are releasing the bird in?

If not - you very well are condemning that bird to a very brutal death.  If it is not a 'cold weather bird' and you release it in a northern state - and it is not native to the area - doesn't have a migratory pattern - since it isn't native to the area - the bird is going to freeze to death.

Down here in Texas - they have a real problem with some parrots that someone let loose - and they decided to make homes in the area.  They have caused much damage and destruction of property - and they are not native to the area.

While it may make *you* feel better - it very well isn't going to be well for the birds or the natural habitat of the area.

  12. No please do not do this. These birds are domestic and tamed. They dont know how to hunt for themselves. Or make a nest. Therefore there would be no means of survival for them. They depend on the pet store workers to give them food and water. So I advise you not to do this.

  13. No. You'd be doing more harm than good. I realize you think its a good idea, but:

The birds have been in captivity their whole lives. They don't know how to survive on their own.

They could affect the whole eco-system in your area.

They're not native. Birds in petstores are shipped in from all different areas.

  14. And you send them to a cruel and short life that they are not equiped to handle.

  15. to keep it simple youd really need to do ur research.

all these answers are correct in that the animal would have difficulty as would many animals in pet shops, zoos, and other places. It is sad because thats what birds do..they fly and they dont get much of a chance with a small cage. Its sad what people do..i mean i love my dog and he has loads of space in the backyard. Birds dont get that lucky :(

  16. They might not be suited to the climate, or something like that so you would need to do your research. It would be even worse for them to find themselves in a strange environment and die of starvation/cold/whatever the next day than to be kept a pet. Basically: be careful. If you want my point of view- i would not recomend it.
