"A highly decorated Green Beret, Staff Sgt. Ryan Maseth died a painful death in Iraq this year. He died not on the battlefield. He died in what should have been one of the safest spots in Iraq: on a U.S. base, in his bathroom..."

  1. no war hero's ! but a freak accident ?   war hero,s means - saving lives in the middle of battle,  you moron !

  2. Patton died in a jeep accident.  It's not how you die, it's what you did.

  3. any military member who dies.. while in service to their country.. is a hero..

they probably shouldnt be given the medal of honor for dying in a shower by electrocution

but.. if they werent in a all metal ship in some god forsaken place.. mabye they wouldnt have died.

yes.. any military member who dies while not committing a crime.. is a hero to me..

  4. He is "not" a hero just because you served. Read hero in the dictionary and you will see what hero means. I served in the military and I am not a hero. All I did was obey orders. That didn't make me a hero.

  5. no. war heros die fighting for their country. this guy died in the shower. he was MURDERED. this does not make him a war hero

  6. In my opinion any soldier [or other] who goes to war in order to fight for freedom [of all people] and protect their country is a war hero. They may not have died or been hurt in the process but they RISKED their life and health for the better good of others. In MY OPINION that makes a war hero.

  7. I think any soldier that gets sent to Iraq to defend his or her country is a war hero, regardless of what they do or how they die or even IF they die.  Anyone who is willing to fight to defend their country and its people is a hero in my book.  Sounds corny, but its true.  Pretty sad about that guy.

  8. He is a hero for having served; I don't equate that as the same thing though with those that have been wounded, or died in combat.  It is a sad thing to for anyone to lose their life so senselessly for something that was preventable.

  9. well he might have became a war hero, but that chance was taken from him so how would anyone know if he was or not.he is in my eyes.I'm mean he was a green beret for crying out loud.

  10. A war hero, no.

My hero, yes, because he served our country (us), risked his life for us, and that makes him a hero.

Not sports figures, not teachers, not pop stars.

Our heroes, regardless of whether one understands the meaning of the word or not, are those who risk their lives for us (police officers, firemen, military...).

  11. He was a "highly decorated" Green Beret.  He may not have been a hero in this war or done something spectacular, but I'm pretty sure he's done plenty in other theater of operations.

It's not how he died that should matter anyways...

  12. it depended on what he did and for how long before he was electrocuted. my grand father was in Vietnam and gave his coat to a 3 year old who was taking care of a baby. and he was dihounerbly discharged. but he got the Congressional Martel of honer. all i have to say is be glad he did something for a war that should not have come to pass any way but for his life  your family got metals my mom was in the army and died this year and they wouldn't even give her a proper barelie or a flag my cousin came over from spokane who is a blue bariel and did the 7 gun salute my mom was just a Peace of **** to the government  so BE HAPPY FOR WHAT HE GOT BEFORE HE DIED AND MAY THE ARMED FORCES KISS MY *** and what they don't tell you is what really happened he probly was taking a shower when a foe or a peson who didn't like in his unit  threw a radio in the shower. the army just wants you to feel like he was a part of somthing but in truth it is disclosed and termanated in the state scenet the real truth of what really happened only god knows and the other person becuse i can't see how the h**l some one can die in a shower in iraq of electracution if we are all dieing of bombs over there i have not heared of this unless it was one of our own? iraq blow us uf not electrocutes us put the math to gether but i do beleave he went over beleaving in what the goverment brain washed him with to do the right thing.  i feel for you. and hope that this reality don't intimadate you to bad but truth is sealed in the goverment. gods peace and love for this solider and to you and your family. peace be with you.

  13. Anyone who serves their country to safeguard their citizens from harm is deserving of the title 'hero'.

So many people denigrate the military from the comfort of their armchairs when they are doing an absolutely necessary job protecting us.

Regardless of how any serviceman loses his life whilst doing his or her duty will always be a hero to me.

  14. Sure, it's fine.

He was a Green Beret and the headline says he was "highly decorated."  That puts him above about 99% for the US population.  I'm not sure anyone, anywhere cares what you call him.  He proved his worth.
