Question:

Is it OK to cook with onions that have gone bad on the outside only?

I'm making my special spaghetti sauce. It takes a half cup of fried and chopped onions. I went to take my last 2 onions out of the fridge and they have gone bad on the outside. One is black and soft all the way through. The other is only bad on the outside, and the inside doesn't look rotten, and it's not soft. I have chopped it up (half cup) and am ready to fry it and add it to the sauce.

Anyone have an answer to this question. Is it OK to cook with onions that have gone a bit bad on the outside, but seem alright on the inside? Thanks.

  1. use the part that is good. i think the messed up ones may ruin your recipe and dont blame me if anything happens.

  2. Just cut away the bad parts and peel the black skin off! Use the good parts!

  3. Yes done it many times

  4. Yes.  just remove the bad parts.

  5. No.  Use onion powder if you must.

  6. That is a good way to do it.

Note onions should be stored in a cool, dark airy place, and not the fridge.

  7. Just did that myself;-} as long as you remove the bad part.

  8. Buy some new onions.  There are people dying all over the world and you're concerned about your onions.

Maybe they make you cry when you peel them, because you are such a touchy pathetic prat.

  9. Yes it is fine I use them like that all the time.

  10. i would think that if they are fine on the inside, it's okay to use them. but, if you die, don't blame me.
