Is it OK to have a beard while working on a oil drilling ship?

Looking for employment as an electrician on a oil drilling ship in Gulf of Mexico and was wondering if a beard is acceptable on board . I know it is difficult to use a face mask that is air tite with a beard .Anyone out there who has or is working aboard such a ship who can answer my question?

No beards allowed. Policy varies by company regarding  mustaches, stingers, goatees and the like. Might as well resign yourself to having to shave it all off.

I've worked in the oil industry, in the electrical department of an oil facility and the quick answer is "No beards!".

When you go for an interview, if you are serious about getting the job, you will be clean shaven so just keep it like that until you get the job. Then after you get the job check with your boss and the safety dept as to how much facial hair is allowed. Some is usually ok. A short trimmed mustache is ok, 1" of sideburns below ear can be ok, and a little shadow is ok but check first or you will be handed a razor and told to shave.

If you are not willing to shave I'd suggest looking for work elsewhere. They are not likely to make an exception due to the safety implications.

Generally the requirements call for have a small beard/mustache or goatee, so the face mask will make a tight face seal.

No beards allowed.  I have family members who work on oil rigs at sea and they are not allowed to have beards.
