  1. It's not a pretty name no matter what your lineage.

  2. yeah theres a model in australia named cheyenne tozzi. and she is of italian background.... so i guess u can

  3. I think its really pretty. Even if you haven't got any Native Indian roots, i still think you should call your little girl Cheyenne if you want to. Also Cheyenne Nicole is gorgeous! Great middle name - flows really well with the first!

    Hope this helps

    Vxxx

  4. Absolutely, it's okay.

  5. I disagree that a name is just a name. Many names have meanings that people ignore because they are just to idle to

    enquire.

Remember that it is not YOUR name but one that the baby will have to cope with through life. You would be surprised at the number of people who change their given names because they make them feel uncomfortable. When you give a baby a name you are hoping to give it the quality that the name suggests, be it strength, grace, hope, durability etc..

Choose something that goes with your surname, write down the initials and see whether or not thay make some word that will be used to torment your child later.

  6. Most certainly it's okay.  I think it's a lovely name!!

  7. Sure.  It doesn't seem to have bothered the zillions of other non-Native American parents who have used that name.  Please just don't spell it weird in an effort to make it "unique."

  8. Definitely. I know a little white baby named Cheyenne, she gets called Annie by her parents. I think Its cute and most definitely acceptable on a white baby.

  9. Yes it doesn't matter you can name your baby whatever you want....

  10. I'd say it's OK. I've known 3 Cheyennes, and they were all white :o)

  11. Sure.  It's a pretty name... and I don't think any particular ethnicity has ownership to that name.  I know of a wee girl called Cheyenne, and I live in NZ - definitely no American Indians here!

    I say go for it!

  12. I think the name Cheyenne is frequently used by non native Americans. It has always been my understanding that Tribal names such as Cheyenne and Dakota are considered sacred. And therefore are not really used within the native American community.

  13. I love that name.  I associate the name with the old West as well even though it originates from the Indians.

  14. Yes it's okay. That is just a name. You can name your child whatever you want. I am not Japanese but love Japanese names and when I have children (one day) I will name them Japanese names. It's okay to name your daughter Cheyenne. I actually have a friend named Cheyenne and she has no Indian in her either ^_^.

    Congratulations (o^_')b

  15. its a good name

  16. Of course it's fine. Nicole is French and you have no problem with that name, right? I think Cheyenne Nicole is a great name. I'm Kelli Nicole (and I do happen to be Celtic and French, but my name wasn't planned around it!)

The name Cheyenne means "Friend" by the way, and just because it originated from a Native American tribe doesn't mean that you can't use it. I say go for it.

  17. It would be ok. It is a name nothing to do with heritage. I am part Indian not Cheyene but I would not take offense to it. Have you got a middle name picked out yet? Just curious. Good luck and congrats!!!

  18. Honestly, I have reservations about the name for that very reason. It's a pretty name, but it's a bit odd to name your child after an Native American nation. Perhaps you should visit a Cheyenne community group and ask their feelings on the matter. There are many people on Y!A who are not of Cheyenne descent, and they would probably feel like using this name is not much of a big deal. I can't speak for the Cheyenne people, and neither can they. You really need to check whether this name is appropriate with one of the Cheyenne Elders, or their equivalent of an Elder.

That said, the name Cheyenne is an incredibly popular one. It currently ranks at #148 in popularity according to the ssa website. Most Cheyenne's I meet are young, white girls. You could opt to use the phoenetic spelling of this name, Shyanne, to differenciate it from the nation.

Some other names you may like: Savannah, Devon, Chanelle, Marissa, Shiloh,  Shyly, Sedona, Mariah, Aisha, Sierra, Chenoa, Autumn, Daria, Ashton, Cassidy, Shasta, Aspen,  Bria, Tallulah, Arielle, Aaliyah, Iesha...
