separated is not divorced. If it was me i'd wait. Also whats to say you date this separated person, become emotionally invested and then they decide they want to work it out with their spouse?

Ultimately, whether it is okay or not, if that's what you want to do then that's what you will do.  Every situation is different, and every relationship is different.

In my humble opinion, it's always better to walk into a new relationship without baggage from the past. However, in the real world I don't think that ever happens.

In the long run, if your relationship with this person is meant to be then no matter what it will stand the test of time.

Try to resist the need to be a knight in shining armor. I suggest making it a rule not to date someone unless they are at least a year or even better 2 years past a divorce. At this point, you are just a band aid...and be aware that once this is over you may be discarded.

Having dated plenty of women I say DIVORCE first. Until then they are married & no matter what she tells you there may still be things going on that you dont need to put yourself in the middle of.

Wait until the ink is dry.  My boyfriend was legally separated and living in an apartment.  He was trying to get his wife to let him come home while we were dating.  It worked because he's home now and we are not together.
