I was fooling around so I decided to make my Pawn into a knight instead of a queen for the easy win. I tried checkmating my opponent with 2 bishops and 2 knights, but it was too hard, is it possible? Then I got fed up so I made my other pawn into a bishop while sacrificing a knight, is 3 bishops possible for checkmating? I know it is actually but the game got too long so we just ended it.

  1. Yeah, I think so. Try pinning him into a corner somehow. Just plan it all out and take it step by step. There aren't very many ways for a stalemate.

  2. yep! i've played that before..even with just 2 bishops, or aking, a knight and a bishop. :)

  3. chess is a good game, never came across that situation, but from what you say, yes its possible!

  4. Yep it is actually possible to force checkmate with just 2 bishops. In fact its even possible with just a 1 bishop + 1 knight although its quite difficult.

  5. yes it's possible

  6. easy check out youtube http://youtube.com/watch?v=YHJqBilVLPU

  7. You can checkmate a lone king with any of the following:

    King + Queen

    King + Rook

King + Bishop + Bishop (opposite colors, can't have a promoted Bishop on the same color)

    King + Bishop + Knight

The two bishops is pretty easy.  The Bishop and Knight take s a little more skill.

There is an obscure King + Knight + Knight ending but only of the opposing player makes a mistake.

A new player should learn and know the elementary end games first before trying to learn anything more complex.  There is not a lot of value to beating a player into a losing position, only to not know how to win the game with sufficient material.  The about article below covers what you will need.

  8. Yes it is possible, but you might have also to use your king to restrict his movements a little.

  9. Yeah.  It is possible to checkmate a lone king with your king and two bishops.  You need to drive him into a corner, check with one bishop, and keep him from escaping with the other bishop and the king.  And three bishops is definitely possible.
