Americans are so bloody ignorant! Why wouldn’t it be safe to visit the Middle East? For god sake, your lot state-side really do believe all the c**p George Bush talks don’t you!!!

The Middle East is an amazing place in the world full of friendly people, in my experience, more friendlily than most Americans I have met.

For a start there is the United Arab Emirates with the cities Abu Dhabi and Dubai, two of the most modern and civilised cities in the world.

Iraq is also a stunning country, Baghdad is a really nice city with stunning architecture, just a shame the American government decided to destroy the place in order to steel cheap-oil.

I'm about as white and American as they come and lived in the Middle East for a while without any issues.  One of my favorite countries is Jordan and there are a lot of neat sites all around.  The UAE and Qatar are also pretty open.  Saudi was a lot more Arab and didn't feel as comfortable. I haven't been to Egypt but for sightseeing, there's a lot there.  Have fun!

Sure, many Americans are still traveling to places like Jordan, Morocco, Egypt, U.A.E. and other Muslim countries in the Middle East. Some people forget that countries like Malaysia and Indonesia are also Muslim countries and safe for Americans to travel to. I've traveled to Malaysia twice in the past year and Indonesia once and as an American had no problems at all. It's probably a good idea not to "flaunt" being an American in any Muslim country these days, though.

Yes, it is safe, but it also depends which country you are visiting, like IRAQ..

Safe: UAE, Jordan, EGypt, Malaysia, Indonesia = safe, no prob

Go to Turkey. It is a modern, westernized country where shariah law is not in the government. The Turkish people don't even believe in that strict law. It is a secualar, but still muslim country where anyone can practice their faith freely. Most of the women dress European and it is beautiful there.

I'm going to be visiting a muslim country next month, and I have no worries about it.  Just stay out Saudi Arabia for one.

If you stick to the more modern Muslim countries you should be fine, like Egypt, Morocco (where I'm going), Malaysia, Tunesia... those countries should be fine.  Which country were you planning on visiting?
