Is it Time to Handle my Tarantula?

Okay.. So I got a tarantula about a day ago. I have been observing its movements as to get use to it, but then I realized that if I ever want to get more in touch and better understand these magnificent creatures, I need to do at least just a bit of interaction with just the tarantula and myself. So I was thinking of picking it up using the free range method (The method were you put your hand down and let it walk on your hand, this way the spider doesn't feel too forced.) I don't plan on picking it up too much as that can be hazardous to the spider, but I do wish to at least interact with it at least once, so in case something were to happen I can be prepared. This tarantula has already been handled by the seller so I know that it isn't new to the handling process. The species is a rose hair. ^-^ Also it is quite young too around 6 months according to the seller.

  1. Just don't hold it in your hand and let the skin wrinkle up or it WILL bite you... as long as you hold your hand flat, it's OK.

I had the chance to hold one years ago and it's a strange experience.

  2. At 6 months old it must be quite small yet so unless you are certain that you will not panic and hurt him I would wait for a couple of molts and he is larger.  I got mine when she was about the size of a grain of rice so I left it alone until it was the size of frozen pea.  I think you can use your own judgement as to when.  Waiting isnt going to hurt you or her
