Is it a bad idea to take two math classes in college?

I want to sign up for intermediate algebra and elementary statistics in college but i'm afraid it will be too much. i haven't taken a math class in a year.

  1. I don't think the two will interfere with each other. You should be fine. If math is a weak point for you, you should probably reconsider. As long as you're not taking any other really challenging courses you should be fine, though.


  2. This is a very personal decision - discuss it with your adviser.  There is no one size fits all answer.

  3. If you're not taking very much else that will tax you, I'd say go ahead.

    Statistics tends to be a timesink class.

    Algebra you will need to also spend a great deal of time on homework. (TRUST ME NOW: Do MORE problems than you're assigned prior to the first test. You can reduce them after you nail it, but do extra for the first month! This is critical to succeeding in any math class.)

    So basically, they'll require more time than you might think. You can do this as long as you're not tying yourself up for hours and hours a night with other courses.
