What I mean is:

We put pieces of charcoal on the ground, pour lighter fluid on top, set it on fire, and put sticks & firewood on top. Is this a bad idea? or is it safe?

  1. the lighter fluid soaks into the charcoil so donk soak just cover and use a long lighter or small stick.

  2. It's not good because lighter fluid has fumes that you could breath in or explode differently.Use charcoal fluid as that's what it's made for.

  3. Sounds like a grill to me so I don't see a problem with it. Be careful to create a stone ring around the fire so it doesn't spread. And definitely douse it and suffocate it with water and dirt when you're done because those coals will burn for longer than you think.

  4. squirt the fluid directly on the wood, works every time!  First pile some lil sticks or kinlen wood then lay a few small sticks criss cross over that. Then take 3 logs and stand them like a triangle. So the wood in point upward start the fire at the bottom. Squirt fluid over it , wait 5 min. squirt a lil more then throw the matches in there. Stand back!!!

  5. Well, it's unnecessary. But if you're having a hard time getting the fire started, use a few charcoal, get them started first in the fire pit, then put the wood in on top of that once they're nice and not, that will give you a continuous ignition source for the wood.

But don't dump lighter fluid on a wood pile, it's really not needed and can be dangerous if you're not very careful.
