Okay, I'm trying to get this job at a private school, I dropped off my resume and called today to follow up and the woman told me that the administrator was coming over, and he would look at my resume and then contact me.

That was at 10:30. Now it's 3: 00. Does this mean he's not going to call?

  1. No. She may have just said that, the administrator may be busy or not ready to schedule an interview, etc.

I would follow up tomorrow with a phone call.

  2. Maybe he/she is busy?  I'm sure others have dropped off their applications too!  I would call back in 24 hours or write a follow-up letter and drop that off in person.  In person, I wouldask for the administrator by name and state that you are following up on the resume that you sent earlier.

  3. Hi Priscilla (I liked your answer to mentally challenged question, by the way) You are concerned as I see it with the etiquette of following up with a resume to a private school.  You didn't say if the job was active or if it were a dry search.  I will answer as though it were for a advertised open position.  Wait a day before calling about the resume.  Then if you have not heard from the administrator call back to ask if there is any more documentation you can provide (this will help to refresh their memory).  Then in 24 - 48 hours send a small note or card expressing appreciation for the opportunity to be considered.  Hope you get your job...good luck.

  4. Be patient and positive and wait.  All good things come to those who wait. Yours might not be the only resume.  Sometimes companies can take two weeks to make a decision about the right candidate. Relax and wait.
