Is it a bad thing to be potentially addicted to Mountain Dew?

I love Mountain Dew(not diet Dew but regular Dew). I've been drinking it 2-3 times a day recently and I've jokingly said that I'm addicted to Mountain Dew. But now that I think about it, I'm getting to the point where I am a Mountain Dew addict. I look at it as both a good thing and a bad thing.

-It's a bad thing because Mountain Dew is loaded with sugar and caffeine.

BUT

-I also look at it as a good thing also because there are worse things I could be addicted to(pot, heroin, cocaine, etc.)

So the question is as stated above: Is it a bad thing to be potentially be addicted to Mountain Dew?

  1. Mountain Dew is not loaded with sugar. It's loaded with High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) and there is a very big difference between the two!

Since HFCS's widespread introduction in the 1980's North American obesity rates have skyrocketed.  When HFCS is ingested, it travels straight to the liver which turns the sugary liquid into fat, and unlike other carbohydrates HFCS does not cause the pancreas to produce insulin. HFCS is an addictive chemical made for you to keep buying their product, and it works!

So yes, being addicted to HFCS is a bad thing. Maybe you can write to the company and ask that your favorite soda be sweetened with sugar for your health's sake. I tried that with Coca-Cola but they refused my request, so I just drink water with lemon and sugar when I want a sweet drink.

  2. I believe that if you have to be addicted to something. it is one of the better things.

  3. I dont think its the worsest thing you COULD be addicted to but it is pretty bad. there is so much c**p from that and it fills your body with it. I think its not bad to have a few a week or less than that but even i love mountain dew and call myself an addict (all my friends agree) and i get like only three a month. so dont drink that much cut loose and thinkk of healthier drinks like juice, water, or milk.

  4. well i love coffee. and i used to drink about 5-7 20oz cups a day.

id call THAT a problem. but 2-3 times a day for a soda? eh. i know a lot of people.

just exercise, or be active. and drink water too.

  5. Yes,

It's bad to be addicted to anything.

    Your analogy is like saying

"Joe jumped off a ten story building but I'll just jump off a 5 story building".

    All things in moderation.

Drink something without caffeine in between Mt. Dew's.

Mountain Dew is included with  "Anything".

    So yes it is.

Also it's loaded with caffeine( a drug) which makes it all the more addictive.

  6. It is not a good thing to have all that processed sugar in a day.  There are things with more caffeine you could have.  Soda also breaks down your bones if you have too much of it.

I'd suggest buying the mini cans that are only 100 calories yourself and limiting yourself to 1 or 2 at the most.

  7. i'm guessing it is probably a bad thing.

  8. 'Potentially' is ok.  If it grows into 'actuality' you may have a problem.

  9. yes some tims beacause of all the caffine in it

    hope this helps!

  10. It is actually the caffeine that you are addicted to. When people typically consume only one thing with caffeine their body associates the caffeine with that drink so they think they are addicted to just that drink.

You can still be addicted to it and it won't be bad if you don't consume too much. Most sodas have 30 - 50 mg of caffeine in them. Mt. Dew has more than others. We should not consume more than 300mg of caffeine a day. Once we hit that level we start to get serious health problems. Sleeping problems, mental clarity, severe dehydration, problems with teh skin, heart, kidneys, and other organs too.

Also too much sugar and calories can lead to obesity, heart disease and diabetes. Although since the average person is overweigth there is more than just too much soda to blame for this issue. But if you can reduce it then that is better.
