The following is an extract from a website I found while surfing the net:

"

Consider these facts

1. While lying on your back with your head resting on a pillow, your neck is bent forward in a very unnatural position.

2. In this position, your head is being pushed forward and your back is arched, also a very unnatural position and totally unhealthy for your spine .

3. If you suffer from frequent neck or back pains, in the majority of cases you can probably blame it on your pillow or soft mattress.

"

And I've found answers here on Y!A contradicting the above. So, right or wrong?

  1. It's probably best to alternate sleeping positions as opposed to a consistent position when sleeping with normal pillows.*  Besides that, pillows are safe to sleep on - people have been using them for centuries and majority of them don't suffer from neck injuries are spinal problems.

If it was unhealthy, why would it be so comfortable and make sleep so much easier?  Remember, before we had soft mattresses and pillows we had to sleep on top of hard surfaces like the ground.  This might be why scientists say that cavemen normally died from arthritis and things like that.

  2. I don't sleep on my back, I sleep on my side. I don't think it's bad to have a pillow cause it gives my head support, instead of my head just flat on the matress. Again, I seep on my side so I need the support. But if I slept on my back, maybe you're on to something!

  3. Hmmmmm......

Which one is selling pillows and who is selling matresses....?

    There ya go....both are liars....hahahahahaha
