Is it a better workout if I run 10 miles in 100 degrees or 80 degrees?

  1. DON'T RUN IN 100*f temps.  Read up on heat stroke a life threatening situation. Even the U.S. Marines avoid running in temps that high. If you live in a very hot place, run at sunrise or sundown. I got to give it to you; your determination is admirable. There are plenty of runners websites that have answers to all your questions.


  2. do not ever run 8 miles in 100 degrees you will get dehydrated and you would get very sick and you will not be able to run for a while

  3. the other answers are g*y.YOU ARE THE MAN. i do 10 miles here sometimes, i'll do it in 100 degrees when the summer rolls around.  And its way better for you to run in 100 degrees than 80 degrees. it seperates the weak from the strong.

  4. Running in excessive heat is a fools ploy. It causes advanced dehydration that you can't refresh with a hand held squeeze bottle. Most runners, upon attaining the "runners high" go too far anyway and if this occurs in a high temp situation you could actually get heat stroke. The very best time to run is in the early morning or cool evening. Then the body can bleed off heat into the cool air and it feels fresh on your face. I see so many runners who are absolutely flush-faced and in obvious distress trying to stay vertical on hot, humid days while they run trying to train. If you have a race coming up at a high temp locale, ease into it by taking shorter duration runs at slowly elevating temps via different times of the day. The best runners, the Kenyan's don't run midday. They know it can kill !!!

It matters a whole lot.......I wouldn't suggest running in 100 degrees for 10 Mi. unless your a really seasoned runner.  I use to train in the hottest part of the day usually mid 90's, but I wasn't going 10 Mi. more like 3-8.  You have to be really hydrated well, and know that at this temp. your pace will suffer some.  I run with a heart rate monitor as well, so I know how my strain I'm putting on my body....and when to back off.  Just know your limits, good luck.
