  1. when you renewed your passport, the old one was cancelled ... when you travel next time, you will be using your new passport ...

the old passport is a reference of your previous travels ... so what does this mean?

if you are a regular traveller and have have travelled to many different places, i should say that these would be reflected in your old passport ... and in your old passport could be seen the approved visa stamps of the countries you have visited ... who knows, your old passport may still contain an active visa (especially so if the visa is a multiple entry for a certain number of years which has not yet expired) ...

also, old passports are a good history reminder of your experience and travels ... and if you care to scan them again, am sure, it will please you to know what you have achieved in your lifetime (as to travels) ...

when you lost your passport, you did not lose your right and privilege to travel (since you have a new one to use) ...

what you lost are the memoirs of your travels ... which are priceless!

that to me is a BIG DEAL !!

(just for your info, I have a total of 11 passports on hand, 9 of which have already been cancelled and renewed; the other 2 are still active, 1 as a regular passport I use as an ordinary citizen and the other 1 as an Official passport I use when travelling as part of the diplomatic core.  I bring all of them whenever I travel.  I have been going in and out of my country for almost 200 times.  In those passports are the precious memories of my travels ... and I treasure those moments!)

  2. This is definitely not a big deal in and of itself and never will be. The only way it could be a problem is if you have been to 'countries of interest' like Pakistan, Iran, N Korea etc and those stamps disappeared with your former passport. Unless you are adjusting your status (citizenship) or your old passport comes up in the hands of terrorists you will never lament the loss, nor loose a minute's sleep over it.
