Question:

Is it a compliment when a 4 year old calls you a handsome t**d?

I said thank you, that's how I was raised, but I really couldn't tell if she was insulting me or complimenting me. What do you think?

  3. COMPLIMENT . 4 YEARS OLD ? YOU SURE NO ONE SET HER UP TO IT ? AND AS FOR THE " t**d " DID SHE MISPRONOUNCED THE WORD " STUD " ?

  4. one part nice, another part unneccesary. Just explain handsome is nice, but t**d isn't the best word. Or say "You mean I'm handsome, that's nice" to redirect into using the nice word without the not so nice word.

  5. Handsome is good !!. But when I think of "t**d". I get reminded of that stuff that comes out of your behind ??. So it sounds like you got a complidiss lol...

  6. At that age, they have no idea what they are saying. I think they new that handsome meant good-looking, but I think they heard the word t**d, didn't know what it mean, and said it. Don't take it personally. It probably was a compliment, but with the wrong word.

  7. Depends on where she learned it. If she thinks it was then it was. When she said it if you forget what the words were did it sound like she was being nice? If so then it was. I would say yes, she was complimenting you.

    They probably called you that becuase the parents, or whoever raises them, say things like that, and they picked it up.

  10. Lol, um, she probably likes you, shes young she doesnt know what she's saying, believe me i know I work with 30 little ones from 3- 6 year olds.

  11. She is just parroting what she hears at home. Either her parents or her playmates talk in such terms. I find this trend toward lack of civility in language most sad and unfortunate.

      

  12. 4 year old is just repeating what she/he heard someone Else say.  Do not take it personal.  She/He was not meaning to insult you; they were just trying to impress you with something they heard someone else say and probably received a roar of laughter for.

    Actually in her little 4 year old mind, she is paying you a compliment.

  13. Hahaha.. I would consider it a compliment of the highest order.  My son is 4 y/o and the word t**d is the funniest and greatest word in his vocabulary at least from his perspective.  :O)

  16. It wouldn't worry about anything a toddler says to you because she's not fully developed. If you want to take it as a compliment, then go right ahead. If not, then just have a good laugh. Because that's really funny.

  17. well you're apparently a t**d, but a high quality t**d, maybe one that looks like a famous person or something, and would like nice on the average mantle.
