I was thinking about joining the community Big Brother program and i was just wondering if it is a good experience. Basically they sign you up with someone who is 6-16 years old and you are to spend at least 3-4 hours with them every week for at least one year.
You are responsible when it comes to what you will be doing with your little brother, but they suggest not to focus on spending alot of money, but to build a friendship and to be a mentor. The reason why you are enrolled to do it for one year, is because many of these child's experience short term big brother/sisters and it is very hard on them.
Anyway i was wondering if anyone here has experience with it and can tell me if it is a good experience? I know it's the right thing to do and you are helping out someone in the end, which is a great thing. But for people that has done this, is it a hard thing to do? Is this rough situations and kid's that totally drive you nuts or really hard to mentor?
Please don't get the impression that i'm just trying to go in this and do it the easy way. I really would like to help out a child and mentor him, even if it is hard and challenging. Just would like to have an idea of what i am getting into, before i do it.
Thanks for the read everyone.
