Is it a good idea for a shy guy to hang out with lots of outgoing people?

My friend keeps asking me to hang out with him on Saturday night. (after 10pm) So far I told him maybe 4 times and never went.

the thing is, he's 4 years older than me (22, im 18) and his friends are probably all around that age, and i don't know what i'm going to do?

I look like a little kid. I'm really shy and talk really low and his friends are all outgoing and stuff. I don't know what to do.

What if I get drunk or something?

I've never been to a "party" or hung out with a bunch of people.

I think he wants to try and get me some friends and have a little fun, but I'm scared of meeting people and stuff.

And the other thing is, I don't know what to tell my parents for coming home so late.

I'm getting scared/nervous just thinking about it.

  1. Do not do anything you are not comfortable with.  However, if you want to go and you are just a little aprehensive, why not give yourself an escape route.  You could have a friend call and see  how you are doing, and if you do not like it you could have the friend invite you to do something with him or her, and if you do like hanging out you will be happy you went.

  2. If you go, take your own car. That way, if things start to get out of hand or you feel uncomfortable, you can leave. Don't say anything to anyone - just leave.

That is the way I stayed out of trouble in my young adult life. Saved me many, many times. I suggest it for first and second dates,  and while meeting new friends at new places. The trick is NOT to take anyone with you that might not want to leave when you do.

Also, to always meet at the place you are going - it is not necessary to follow anyone, or let anyone follow you.

You can go and have a good time, just play it safe!

    Good luck!
