Is it a good idea to leave a crabpot in the water for a week?

My friend lives in a water front home that I have found to be a good crabbing spot. He let put a crabpot back there, but the only problem is I won't be back at his house for another week. I have the trap tied down real well so I'm thinking it should be fine. I live in south Florida by the way, so would alligators be a problem.

If it is a maryland cage there are state laws that state how long the pot can be left in the water check the florida game laws

Should be fine. The fisherman around here do it all the time.
