  1. I am majoring in Accounting and I believe that it is going to be a good choice for several reasons.

1)Starting salary is usually very high

    2)Many different career choices

3)Accountants will always be a high demand career

4)Any state/city is going to have positions for accountants

5)Many work at home so if I have children I could always work at home.

The good thing is these two majors are very similar in classes you would have to take so it would be relatively easy to switch, the earlier the better.

As far as jobs, I'm not sure about economics but for accountants there are many many types of jobs depending on your education level. If you get a masters degree and pass the CPA test like I'm planning, you'll have many more higher career choices. Some of the broad fields that accountants can go into include:  tax, audit, financial, payroll, public accounting, and many more. I would suggest going to careerbuilder.com or any other online job search websites to get an idea of salary and positions based on different locations.

For a well paid career in accounting I would suggest completing either an MBA or MAcc and become a CPA.

  2. If you only wish to study accounting or economics, go for accounting, better job opportunities. In fact, both are not good, unless you have done some accounting work before. Come to money, don't expect good pay for the first few years. Jobs include cost analyst, financial assistants, admin assistants, sales representatives, financial planners, financial accountant, management accountant, tax officer, audit assistant. Based on my experience, don't expect to be an accountant straight out of your college, but you can try your luck with related jobs, like audit, tax or admin, then switch later. Most people study an accounting degree to get a CPA, if not than don't study accounting.
