Is it a good idea to put couch cushion covers in the washing machine??

I have a couch, chair and loveseat that are all durapella fabric....I was wondering if it's good to put them through the washer and dryer??

  1. No, go to an upholstery store with one of the covers and ask how they would recommend cleaning it.  They should be able to help you, try two of them if you have to.  If you can't afford to buy new furniture, be careful not to ruin these covers because slip covers are the worst if you have to get them.  If you have absolutely no luck with the fabric store, go to a furniture store that carries comparable items and ask them.  Do not put them in the washer.


  2. Washer, yes (cold water, gentle cycle). Dryer, no. If you put them in the dryer, they'll shrink enough that you may never get them back on the cushions.

  3. possible the washer on gently.  do not put them in the dryer.  you really should take them to be professionally cleaned.

  4. You can put them in the machine on a cool wash but a slower spin speed, but don't put them in a drier, best off hanging them out on a washing line.

  5. No bad idea. Mold and other forms of bacteria will develope.
