Question:

Is it a good idea to stop therapy if I feel I could spend the money better elsewhere?

I have a really great therapist but I am wondering if I can spend the money better elsewhere. For example, I spend $225/week - I could spend that to buy an ipod I don't have, or a new cell phone to replace my 5 year old one, save up for a vacation and so on. I can afford paying her that much every week but in return it leave me with no disposal income to spend on other things. Is my mental health more important than these other things?

  1. Your mental health is more important than those other things.  Would you stop seeing a physical therapist if you needed one?

  2. Mental health is more important than an ipod and cell phone.  Having an ipod is well and good but it's not something you "need".  Sounds like you "need" your therapist...if not you wouldn't be going already.  Get things straightened out with your therapy and then you can spend that money on things that you wish to have.

You can always ask your therapist how he/she thinks you're doing.  So you may be able to cut your time down some.
