I finish college June '09 and i'm seriously considering taking a gap year before uni so that i can travel the world with my boyfriend. Some people have said that it will make me not want to work/go to uni, what do you think?

Some of the places i want to visit are Rome, Egypt, China, Australia and America but i would appreciate any suggestions as to where and how long i should spend in these or any other countries. Also, would like to know how much people who have travelled the world spent because i need to start saving!

  1. YEH SURE WHY NOT sorry for the caps lock gain expeience, its good for the character.

    take care dude

  2. take a gap lifetime

  3. Most people I know who took a gap year spent most of their time in Australia..... now thats the place to go so.....

    You Go Girl.

    Have fun.

  4. In my opinion, taking a gap year is brilliant, but if you do plan on going to uni afterwards, it's probably a better idea to make some money in your year out. Trust me , when you're at uni, the last thing you want to be worrying about is finances!! There will be plenty of time in your life to travel, better to do it with lots of money :)

  5. Only you can tell if and when you are ready to travel. It will teach you a lot about yourself and make you more independent, I would definitely recommend travelling, but it doesn't necessarily have to be before you go to uni does it? You can take time out to travel whenever you want before you get too committed with a job/house/family etc Maybe travel for a year after uni, or work for a year after uni to save up money - you will probably appreciate it more then anyway! Whatever you decide to do; have fun and be safe.

  6. DO IT... if you don't do it now, you never will and the time to travel the world is not when you have to drag a kid along... go for it and enjoy.

Be careful... I did a gap year when I was 17 and didn't go home to return to college for 3 YEARS.

  7. Yes definitely !!! I always wanted to travel but didn't and ended up giving up a good job at 30 to be a travel rep, I love my job but I do get jealous of all the young ones who can work 20 hour days and party for the other four!!!

Personally I think people who are 18/19/20 are too young to go to uni, I know I was if I'd waited  a year or two I would have done a much better degree and got a 2:1 instead of a 2:2 go see the world you'll get a better education than you could learn in any classroom.
