Hey everone. I live in Boston, MA and I am cosidering a career change. I have always been interested in Real Estate and am working now in a related field. I have thought about getting my real estate license in the past but never actually went throught with it. I am considering working as a real estate agent (rentals) but with the state of the market - I am not sure its the best idea. Anyway, I thought I would ask because sometimes things arent always as bad as the media makes it out to be. So, how bad is the market right now? and is this an OK time to start a career in Real Estate? Thanks...

  1. If you think you would like real estate, go ahead and get into it regardless of the market conditions.

Successful agents can make a living in any market.

I have been a broker for 10 years and if I had to make a living on residential real estate sales, i would find a tall building and jump.  It is just not what I enjoy.  Many others who I work with simply love it and it is a great living albeit exteemly competitive.  To be a successful real estate agent, you have to be committed to you clients and to absolute honesty and integrity.  Your evenings and weekends are no longer your own, but they belong to your clients.  You have to be committed to research and keeping updated on all local conditions that affect the market.

I assume rental agents ar much the same although it is not something I have dealt with very much.

    Good luck!!

  2. if you specialize in foreclosures

  3. Absolutely! When you say "career in Real Estate", keep in mind, that could be a myriad of avenues. I focus on TIMOS and REITS. This market is doing great! Also, if you are considering rentals, that would seem to be a smart focus at this time. The problems with the economy stem from the mortgage market, not necessarily the housing market. Therefore, those not qualifying or foreclosing on a mortgage...guess what, will be renting!

    Good Luck!
