Question:

Is it a myth that interracial people are more attractive?

It is a commonly-held belief that couples of mixed racial origin produce babies who grow up to be better aesthetically endowed than their "pure" counterparts. To be honest, I've experienced this phenomenon as being true, not only on TV, but even within my own (extended family). It seems half-Caucasian and half-Asian babies, in particular, turn out more often to be individuals who are popularly regarded as being beautiful or handsome. What I want to know is whether this, for some biological reason, is true or whether this is simply a myth. Thanks!

  1. From what I've seen, it's true. But I see it this way...interracial offspring can be extremely attractive or extremely unattractive but never somewhere in the middle. That's only from what I've seen though. And it is kind of weird that this happens. :( I wish I was mixed.

  2. I don't think it is necessarily true that they are more beautiful, but they are unique(er) looking than what most people are accustomed to seeing, so if they are physically attractive, their uniqueness REALLY sets them apart.

  3. not sure about this but it is a generally accepted truth

that my kids are the most beautiful...

    myth coincidence who knows.

  4. Interesting question.  Many people see mixed children (including my own) as very unique and exotic - my son seems to have inherited the best of both his Scottish father and Asian mother, but then again, I am likely biased!

We are seeing more and more mixed children, and after a while, I think they will lose their uniqueness (there are 3 others in my son's daycare room alone that are mixed).  All children are beautiful to me, so I personally don't see them as more attractive than others.

  5. I don't think that's the case.

Beauty is pretty subjective. I personally find blue eyes and high contrast attractive. So when I see someone of mixed ancestry with dark skin and pale eyes, I think that they look amazing.

I tend to find people beautiful who do not always meet society's definition of beauty. Some of them are very racially isolated, such as very "Irish" people (pale skin, flaming red hair, green eyes, soft skin) or very "African" people (skin so dark it borders blue/black, elongated limbs, beautiful facial aesthetics).

There really is no way to say that being of a mixed race makes someone more attractive. My mother is from the Dominican Republic and my father is from Tennessee, yet I think that I look very plain.

I don't think most people expect interracial children to be more attractive than more isolated groups. But Hollywood does tend to focus on "African Americans" with a mixed racial heritage, instead of people with mostly African descent. Take Beyonce, Rhianna, or Halle Berry. Like Bollywood films that favor Indians with lighter skin, the American film industry tends to favor lighter shades of brown. This problem is not true in the modeling industry, where very dark women are sometimes chosen for looking "exotic" and different looks will get you a contract. Those looks can come from being of a mixed race or from an isolated racial group.

    Hope this helps!

  6. NOT A MYTH....ITS ALL BIOLOGICAL......HTHE MIXED BLOOD ARE MORE PRETTIER THEN THE ONES THAT ARE NOT....

BUT DONT LET THAT HET U DOWN!!!! U ARE BEAUTIFUL AS U ARE....

  7. Attractive is a relative word.  It depends on the viewer.  Too many viewers to answer the question.  No one can ever answer this question intelligently, because tastes will always depend on the individual.  Billions of people occupy this planet.
