Question:

Is it a prologue or a precursor?

Alright, I wrote a story that seems to start off 'seamlessly' per say. In other words it's like there was a chapter preceding it, but with no immediate information. Initially there was a chapter there, but I took it out and placed it at the end as what I thought was a prologue. Someone told it was a precursor I was thinking of. Which is it?

  1. A "prologue" introduces an element of the story, while an "epilogue" is a summary which ties up loose ends.  An example of a story that has both elements is "Ethan Frome."

  2. Prologue is a preface to any literary and is correct, I believe. Precursor is one coming first and signaling the coming of someone or something else. And it's "per se" - by, of or in itself or oneself or themselves.
