This is an excellent question! If you look at Judeo-Christian doctrine, you would think so! From Eve to the painted Jezebels of modern society, who are held up as warning to all!

He writes about the Catholic Church's Malleus Maleficarum - the witch hunts, which simply was an edict to scourge all women, considered bold, different or deviant, those who would not necessarily succumb to male dominance. So, no, the words are not necessarily uttered out loud but they are often culturally implicit!
