  1. Yes if you address the ball,swing and miss it's a stroke every time.


  2. From the rules of golf,  a "stroke" is "the forward movement of the club made with the intention of striking at and moving the ball".

    Golf is a game built on integrity and honesty. If you intended to hit the ball, you must count the stroke. You will always see players calling rules infractions on themselves.

    Eveybody in your group will know that you meant to hit the ball, so you won't be fooling anybody.

    Just to clear up some other answers: It's not a penalty, you just have to count the swing as a stroke. It's not a PGA rule, it's a USGA (and R&A) rule.

  4. yep, according to the usga rules if you swing the club with the intention of hitting it it counts as a stroke whether the ball is hit or not
