I have gotten my laptop 6 months ago. I have had no problems with it, security wise and everything. I had just gotten broadband 3 days ago. Since, my friend wanted to use my laptop for some research. I created an account for her. Just yesterday, as I was going on-line. I noticed something wrong. 3 yahoo homepages came up at the same time. Now that has never happened before. I scan all my files and and realized that she had downloaded a corrupted file. As I got the file deleted and uninstalled everything that she had. I rescanned again. And only then, did everything worked alright. But, it still hasn't stopped the yahoo pages from popping up 3 at one time. So what should I do to help solve this problem?

  1. First of all check that Yahoo simply hasn't been set to the homepage. (To do this in I.E. go Tools > Options) And if that doesn't resolve the problem you could use the Windows Reset Tool to take your computer back a few days. Or try a spy ware removal program.

  2. 1 Run CHKDSK, it restores missing files.

    and

2 Place the recovery CD into the tray, close the menu window when it shows, enter "sfc /scannow" into the run commands, it will scan the cd  replacing any missing or corrupt system files, keep clicking 'Retry' if your prompt untill the scan is complete.

  3. the account you created for her, go to start, control panel, user accounts. click change account, click on her account, click change account type, click limited. this will prevent changing key system settings.

google "startup cpl" this is a great freeware application that will allow you to see what starts up when your account starts up. un-click programs you do not want starting up. you can click them to have it auto run if you choose.

if you upgrated yahoo instant messager, it pops up a yahoo page when loading. hope this helps.

pps. if not, try turning back time on  your computer a day or 2 before you set up her account..  start, programs, accessories, system tools, system restore.

  4. well you learned ot never let anyone touch you computer agian.

    its not a virus.

    just do a system restore

    or uninstall yahoo c**p

and empty recycle bin then restart.

and do windows update and IE7 update.
