Is it acceptable to call off your shift at Wendy's four or more hours in advance?

Yes it is. But only you know what you can and can't get away with at your job. How many times have you called off before? How hard is your boss? Is it easy for them to get someone to cover for you? Either way, I don't know if you are sick or not, but hey, If you're sick you're sick. It is the managers job to take care of that. If they ask though, I think that being sick is the most easily accepted answer that there is. It happens to everyone and there's nothing that you can do about it.

If you're just a teenager working there, and haven't really been there long enough then yeah, they will hate it, especially if it's going to make them short handed that day. If you have no specific reason they will just view it as you don't take your job seriously, giving them motive to fire you.
