  1. Yes it is.  This law is in place so that if a person attempts to commit suicide, the officers have a legal reason to take the person into custody.  Once in custody, they are taken, against their will, to a psychiatric hospital for treatment.

    Assisting someone else, however, is illegal. I think some posters are confusing the two.

    People who attempt, or threaten, suicide are not arrested, they are taken into protective custody. They are then taken to a psychiatric hospital for evaluation and treatment.

    Protective custody is not the same as an arrest, as there are no charges against you, just a protective hold.
