  1. It's usually posted on the ramps that pedestrians, hitchhiking, and bicycles are NOT permitted on any major highways in any major traffic area (cities, metropolitan areas)

  2. On Interstates, no. But on some parts of highways, especially if there is no easy side roads for them to take, it is legal for them to ride on the shoulder of the road.

Sometimes there are special side routes for the bikes in narrow or dangerous parts of the highway.

You can clearly see the signs letting you know when you have to get off and use the side roads

  3. It used to be illegal in every state but I was surprised to see a

sign on an interstate directing bicycles to stay on the shoulder.

I don't know about your area but I suggest asking a state trooper.

  4. Yes it is in all 50 states.

  5. I would think so.

    Good Luck...

  6. It should be, but if it is allowed there will be signs saying so, just as there should be signs saying you can't. If you are allowed there should be dedicated bike lanes for you.

  7. A big YES...no human powered, animal powered/drawn vehicles or pedestrians/hitch hikers are allowed on any Interstate highway in the U.S. and that should be obvious due to the type and speed of traffic on those highways...

  8. Yes and stupid
