  1. It doesn't matter, most vitamins are c**p anyway.

They mainly are just an appetite stimulant which forces you to eat more food.

You would be money ahead if you'd just eat the right food and get what you need the natural way.

  2. If you are taking other medications I would suggest speaking, or calling a pharmacist or your physician before taking the vitamins.  If you are already taking vitamins, be careful in taking the multi-vitamins.  Too much of one thing can be bad for you.

So, again, if already taking something get advice from a doc or pharmacist first.  If not, there is no harm in taking vitamins (as long as it is once a day).

    Good luck!

  3. i did a study on this in pre-med, lets see....

the body requires only very small amounts of vitamins, however, demand may increase with the situation (pregnancy etc) and i suggust you take professional advice before taking any multiviamin, a major reason for this is that you donot want to overdose your self. Many pills provide 100% of the RDA for a specific vitamin and if your taking another multivitamin AND your regular food you could get into trouble. The effects of overdose (such as that of vitamin D) can be pretty severe.

  4. For the most part adding a multiple vitamin to your diet is no big deal, because most of us boil the nutrients, so muchly needed out of our food. It is a rarity, that the normal everyday person gets the right amounts of vitamins and other nutrients from whatever they are eating. Especially, those of us who live in the United States. We have become accustomed to eating high fat and high carbohydrates from fast food. We probably do not get enough fiber in our foods, let alone enough Vitamin A, B, C, D, E or K. And many of us are lacking in Iron as well.

Now on the other hand, if you already have some underlying problems;  such as,  diabetes, arthritis, hypertension or are taking other medications for a a recent viral or bacterial infection; it is a wise move to seek counsel from either your family doctor or your Internist. The reason, I suggest this, is because some vitamin formulas may have adverse reactions to some of the  prescribed medications. And it is best for the doctor to help you decide which plan of vitamins would be the best for your dietary needs.

For instance, if you have been diagnosed with Acid Reflux, you might not want to take a chewable Vitamin C, as it might irritate the esphageal lining and possibly cause a stomach upset. And if you are prone to getting Necrotic Tumors, it might not be advisable for you to add any excessive Iron into your diet. The same goes for someone who is on Heparin or Coumadin( blood thinners); the added Iron would counter-act the effects of the blood thinners.

So, this is a decision, you will need to make yourself.

Read through everyones responses, look at the Pros and Cons, if you have nothing else wrong with you, then by all means, find a vitamin and take it as it says in the directions.

I added a multiple vitamin to my regimen even though I have underlying problems. I added a nice tasting one that is like a sour gummy bear. When I went to my doctor a few weeks ago and told him I had added this, he seemed pleased, but he tried to talk me into one that was stronger. He gave me samples, I didn't like the taste. So, I'm still taking the ones that taste good.

    Good Luck on your decision!

  5. Generally, yes, since you've covering your bases of general nutrition when you take one... but there are a few exceptions.

If you haven't had a physical or blood test any time recently, you should be a bit more careful of multis that have higher Iron content. Also, you'll want to research any herbs and other nutrients that aren't standard vitamin/minerals just to make sure you won't have any problem with any of them (which is rare).

Also, make sure you don't double-up on any without talking to a doctor. What I mean is don't take a separate vitamin pill in addition to a multivitamin without checking because you can overdose on certain vitamins (specifically the fat-soluble ones) and most minerals easier than people know.

However, if you're taking any prescriptions, you definitely want to ask a pharmacist before taking any to make sure that the drugs won't have any problem with the nutrients (which too many do). Good luck!

  6. You should probably discuss it with your auto mechanic.
