Is it allowed for my child to attend a public school on a city different of the one where we live?

we live in gardena ca, we want her to study in redondo beach. This is for kindergarden new enrollment.

  1. You have to ask for a city transfer and tell them why you think this will be better for your child.


  2. Seeing that it is for public school kindergarten often times it is no. It is called school choice and some towns do this but it is usually just for high school transfers. This is what I know for the state of MA.

    If you would like a different kindergarten school than what is in your disctrict in your own home town, your town will try to accomodate that. However, the need to follow these- the district will then assigns the student to a school based on preference, school capacity, and racial composition.

  3. I think so, in fact, yes.  I have known of bussing to make that scenario happen.

  4. It is allowed in some cities.   It depends on school numbers regarding crowded classes, etc.   Many districts do not allow it, though, so call the school district office and ask.   Why ask us?

  5. A lot of times you have to pay tuition.

  6. For public schools it is either yes or no depending on what the rule is in that school district. Sometimes there is a date when you have to request for a change for your child.
