Question:

Is it alright to let my 8 month old puppy chew on a pair of crocs that I have outgrown?

My puppy loves it and they would just be thrown away. It keeps her busy for hours and helps to keep her teeth from getting to sharp. Just wondering if there was a reason or way it could hurt her.

  1. I personally wouldn't recommend it or allow it. One pair usually ends up leading to any pair that happens to be around.

  2. sure, if you don't mind the dog chewing everything else in the house...i'm sure they test those shoes for toxicity

  3. no. that is why they make puppy toys, throw the shoes away before the pup tears a piece off and chokes on it, go to the pet store and buy it some good strong chew toys.

  4. no, because then he will think is is ok and chew up other shoes

  5. I wouldn't recommend it, she could start thinking that all shoes are fair game if you let her chew on those. Also if she swallows a piece of the plastic, it could harm her.

  6. It won't hurt her unless she swallows chunks of the shoes.  However, if you don't want her chewing on shoes then it isn't a good idea to let her think that they are chew toys.  Dogs can't differentiate between your old worn out pair of crocs and your brand new pair of crocs.  And if she gets into the habit of chewing crocs, there really isn't much, if any, difference to a dog between crocs and your favorite pair of dress shoes.  At 8 months old, your dog should have pretty much all of her adult teeth...they aren't going to get any sharper whether she chews on things or not.

  7. If it keeps her busy let her chew on them but if she trys to bite other shoes take them away.

  8. no.  This will show the dog that it's okay to chew on shoes.  Yes, you don't care about this particular pair, however, the dog will be thinking that if I can chew on that pair of shoes, then I can chew on other shoes as well.

Get a good nyla bone or other hard toy that they can chew on.
