Question:

Is it alright to mix my babies infant cereal with water?

I have recently started introducing my daughter to rice cereal. The first couple of times I mixed it with warm formula and she would pull the spoon toward her mouth and then push it away. I thought she wasn't ready so I stopped for a few days but a friend of mine said that I should try mixing it with water ( my daughter is on alimentum and it smells horrible, even worse when it is warm so she thought that might be part of the reason my daughter was pushing the spoon away). I am not sure if that was the case but I did try mixing it with warm water and she has been taking it fine. This morning I read an article that said you should only mix infant cereal with formula or breast milk but on the box it even says you can mix it with water. I definately don't want to do anything that is bad for my daughter. Does anyone know if it is alright to mix infant cereals with water? Thanks :)

  2. I did mix it w/ water

  3. Yes, Thats what I use. It mixes smoother too. As long as its boiled water. Once it boils, wait another minute .

  4. If she is eating it with water stick with it.  Remember she is still getting most of her nutrition from the formula.

  5. yes why isnt water good for babies?

  6. it would be fine but if she won't eat it try to mix alittle banana with it or some apples....how old is she???

  7. I can not imagine that it would not be fine, as long as your baby is getting plenty of milk otherwise.  I fed all 3 of mine cereal, sometimes with milk, sometimes with water, sometimes with juice.

  8. yes it is but i liked to mix it with milk

  9. It's fine if you mix it with water, as long as she is still getting enough formula.

Although, I wouldn't recommend rice cereal at all. It has no nutritional value.

  10. you can mix it with water or with milk.

  11. Make sure the water doesn't have *sodium fluoride in it.

  12. If she's taking enough formula otherwise, mixing the rice cereal with water if fine.

Alimentum smells like h**l, add that weird rice cereal smell to it and I can't blame her for turning her nose up at it.

Since your daughter is on Alimentum, I'm going to venture to guess that she's either allergic to milk and/or soy or has reflux? If allergy is the case, remember to take solids slowly, with at least a week between introducing new foods (one at a time).

  13. Each cereal is different.  You have to read the box to determine if they suggest mixing with formula/breastmilk or mixing with water.

  14. Water is fine : )

  15. Yes, water is fine, but it's not giving her the extra nutrition she needs to stay healthy and thrive.  If she doesn't like it with formula, try watered-down juice.  The vitamin C in the juice will help her body absorb the iron.  I bet your pediatrician will discuss this at your next well-check.

  16. you can mix the cereal with formula, breastmilk, water, and even juice when they're a little older.  It's just not safe to give the baby water b/c it can thin their blood.  That's probably what you've heard of before and why you're wondering.  But you can mix it with water if they take it better that way.  Once they are on solids and juice you can mix cereal with the food and juice too.  I always did stuff like that just to give them a variety of what they eat everyday.  Who wants to eat plain cereal and formula every day?  I would mix the fruits and veggies w/ it as well.  Also thickens the food so they get used to eating thicker stuff.
