i read somewhere that it IS an MOT failure to have no side repeaters on the wings unless you can see the front indicators from the side. i own a vauxhall nova and i want to get rid of the side repeaters on the wings. in my opinion you can see the front indicator from the side. look at this picture of a vauxhall nova from the side

so what do you think?

any MOT testers could answer this question please? or anyone that knows. thanks

  1. we own a garage;

    you dont need side repeaters, BUT, if theyre fitted, they MUST work.  if you remove them, then they aint fitted, and they cannot be tested.

  2. If they are on the car, then they must be working

  3. hi there.

    If they are there, they must work. You can take them off if you want, though, as long as you don't leave a hole (holes in bodywork are considered dangerous and are a fail point).

    Cheers, Steve.

  4. Vehicles first used after 1/4/86 must be fitted with one side repeater indicator on each side. Instead of a separate lamp, the side repeater might be part of the front direction indicator if it includes a wraparound lens.

    Wrap-around indicators are tested by standing approximately 1000mm to the side of the vehicles rear bumper with indicator on. If amber light can be seen coming through the front lens (not a reflection) this is acceptable.  If it cannot be seen, repeaters are required.

  5. If your car is fitted with them as  standard then they have to work.

  6. You either need side repeaters fitted or must have a "wrap-around" headlamp system (i.e. the indicators in the headlamp assembly can be seen from both the front and the side as they curve around onto the wing).

    You must have one or the other. If you remove the side repeaters and do not have a wrap-around system it will fail (but from looking at your pic it does seem to wrap around).

  7. II understand that if the lights are fitted they must be in working order.  comes down to the original manufacturers specification.  It might not be possible for you to change this just to suit yourself,
