  1. Yes, there are free grants out there, and there are even more grant scams out there ready to take your money.

At the site below, they offer a very informative ebook about free legitimate grants, how and where to apply for them, etc...

It is found in their free downloads club along with a lot of other useful ebooks, reports, and software.

Good luck and wish you much success.

  2. Ask the thousands of kids who get their tuition paid every semester by Pell Grant funds.

Yes, there's real grant money out there. But you have to qualify and you have to show a real need. There are grants for educational purposes, grants to start a nonprofit organization, grants to help families whose homes have been destroyed by natural disasters ...

If you're asking whether there's grant money available to help you buy gas for your SUV or to pay your mortgage for you, that's a whole different story. Grant money is not meant to help people get out of holes that they've jumped into all by themselves.

  3. Yes, provided you meet the conditions of the grant being offered. It's extremely, vanishingly rare for grants to be available for private for-profit businesses or for private individual use. Usually grants are given to registered non-profits who have demonstrated the community need for their service and where the grant money will go, or for R&D in an industry the government or granting association wants to incubate.

Private funding is the standard for private business -- bank loans, selling some equity to an investor, cleaning out your personal savings, liquidating some of your belongings, and so forth.

  4. YES, there are grants

You can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov - these are two FREE sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support your purposes.

Even if you buy books on "how to get grants" or list that supposedly has information on grants -- all of them are mere rehash of what CFDA has, albeit packaged differently.

Note though that these grants generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments. Most of the federal grants are given to specific target groups with specific requirements (e.g. minority business owners involved in transportation related contracts emanating from DOT - Grant#20.905 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Short Term Lending Program. Individuals especially for personal purposes are not eligible for federal grants.

Grants are also often given to non profit groups or organizations involved in training or other similar activities (grant 59.043 Women's Business Ownership Assistance that are given to those who will create women's business center that will train women entrepreneurs

  5. Yes one of my neighbors got 40,000 in grant money but it all went to the bank because she needed to pay off her debts to them
